Hi! My name is Kayla and I’m the KDB–my family is the CO. I have been sewing since I was young, and have yet to fall out of love with it. I’m a secondary teacher at a high school right now, but would you believe me when I say I prefer junior high? Something about those awkward teenage years calls to me.
I have a passion for teaching and sewing, and my wish is to make sewing accessible to everyone! My goal is to provide the opportunity for others to make high-quality clothing and be proud of what they make. Clothing that will make people say “wow, you made that?!” instead of “wow, I can tell you made that.”
Every time I would see that a website had free patterns, I’d go check them out and be disappointed when they had a few not-so-cute patterns for free and everything else cost money–sometimes a lot. I totally understand and respect that artists need to live off their craft and earn a living. My goal here is different. Sewing can be cost-prohibitive for many people, and I don’t want that to be the case. It used to be a matter of saving money but now it has turned into a rich man’s hobby so to speak.
As a FCS teacher in Utah, I grew very accustomed to a culture of sharing whatever you have to help others be successful. It’s on those principles that I share what I do. There may come a time when I start to charge for some of the things I do, but always trying to balance my ventures with the principle of knowledge and opportunities for those who seek them. I hope you find something you enjoy, and if you don’t, let me know what you’re missing!
